Working
in the service of Life page 2
Christine, 37, came to the clinic for infertility.
After a treatment of two months, she still couldn’t get pregnant; therefore, I
asked her to bring her husband to have a consultation. I prescribed
the herbal medicine for both Christine and her husband. One month later, she
became pregnant. When Christine
was found to be pregnant, the
first reaction of her husband was “can I stop taking the herbal medicine? She
already gave birth to a baby boy in June, 2008."
Lisa, 39, had
tried IVF (in vitro fertilization) 6 times. Unfortunately, it failed.
She even used a donor’s egg, due to her poor egg quality. Most of her
IVFs were done in San Francisco, USA. After all of these, she started taking
Chinese Herbal medicine every day and having acupuncture twice a week. After one
year, she conceived naturally. She already gave birth to a handsome baby boy in
end of July, 2008. During her pregnancy, she continued her acupuncture treatment
once or twice a week. One day, her husband came with her. Then Lisa said to her
husband: “since you are here, why don’t you have an acupuncture treatment.”
Jokingly, the husband said, “I have already done my responsible part”.
Most of
these patients have Immunological problems (APAs---
Antiphospholipid Antibodies). When they become
pregnant, they must inject daily a medication into their tummy, and also inject
their husband’s white blood cells. Some babies are born prematurely.
For some, the pregnancy is not so smooth. There is always some danger
of miscarriage; therefore, I am on call all the time for these pregnant
patients… of course, I count on prayers to see me through.

Daily
practice brings me closer and closer to God. There are always so many people in
need, but what I can do is very limited. Experiencing my limitations, I have to
ask more from God to help out these people. My happiest moment is to see
these patients become pregnant.
Besides my clinic
work, I am teaching
part time Chinese Medicine and Acupuncture in the University of East, for the
graduate school master degree program, and another class for medical doctors
to learn acupuncture. I am practicing my English much more in the Philippines than I
did when studying in the U.S. when I listened more than I spoke
but now, I am speaking English all day long with my patients and students
but know that it is still a poor and broken form.
