I needed more years to improve my English, gain sufficient knowledge and skills. Besides, I was going to be observed my two people-- a cooperating teacher and a professor. I started to have nightmares and the only idea that comes in my mind was to change my major. But then I was reminded of a fact –a very clever person, though eligible, may not be good teacher but an average person, who doesn’t have a great history of achievements, may turn out to be good orator and can explain the subject to someone in a lucid manner. “That’s what teaching is all about, isn’t it,?” I thought.

Though I had numerous experiences during my student teaching years in both urban Catholic and public schools, for lack of space, I will only highlight a few experiences.

My first assignment was at St Mary’s with 4th graders. I prepared myself for my first encounter with my students with much apprehension. There were fourteen students in the classroom. Obviously, I was nervous at the start but tried hard not to show it. As the first few minutes went by, I started becoming more and more comfortable in my new role. I tried to take everything in a light vein and enjoy the time there. The first lesson went very well much to my amazement –even with my heavy African accent. This field experience lasted four months.
